Isaac B. Sawyer

"Was born on Tuskeegee creek in Macon, now Swain county in 1810.  James W. Patton, John Burgin and 'Squire Sawyer were for years the three magistrates composing the Buncombe county court.  He was the first mayor of Asheville and was clerk and master for many years before the Civil War and until the adoption of the Code.  He was the father of Capt. James Sawyer, who for years was the president of the Battery Park bank, a successful merchant and a public spirited and enterprising citizen.  [He] died in 1880. (1914. Arthur, John.
