Lewis Memorial ParkRobert J. Lewis, a funeral director, commissioned Douglas Ellington to design the office for a new cemetery he had established in North Asheville. Lewis first met Ellington while Lewis was chairman of the building committee that oversaw the construction of Ellington's design for the First Baptist Church.
The design for the cemetary office is small, but Ellington's design is reminiscent of his work on Asheville High School and the First Baptist Church. The structure includes an octagonal roof, a series of chevrons over the flanking gateways and the central window and contrasting textures of stone and masonry.
