Ellington HouseDouglas Ellington purchased a three acre tract on Chunns Cove Road in 1926. He started work by incorporating an old log cabin that was on the site. Construction continued on the house for several years. Working with no drawn plans and often utilizing materials salvaged from other projects, Ellington created a romantic and seemingly organic house.
Inside, the house is divided into distinct areas feeding off a large central living area dominated by a massive stone fireplace. At one end of the living area is the kitchen and at the opposite end is a library in the old log cabin. Upstairs is a series of bedrooms.
In front of the house is a large patio built atop the garage. Utilizing the natural slope of the hillside, Ellington created two additional small patios leading out from the second floor.
