ALLEN HOME SCHOOL
(Allen School for Negro Girls)

Founded 1887
Allen Home School was formerly the Asheville Industrial School. It became the Allen Home School in 1887 when it served as a boarding and training school for black women. In the early 1930's the school changed hands again and under the Methodist Church it became a private school for high-school aged girls. The Methodist school persisted until 1974 when the facility was closed.
