Clayton, Col. John

"...of Mills River filled many stations of honor and trust in his own County, and perhaps, represented it in the Legislature oftener than any other one man, and in both branches.  He was magistrate and one of the County Court, in Buncombe and Henderson for perhaps thirty years.  He was a ruling elder of the Presbyterian Church for a great many years; raised a numerous family and died in peace in 1857.
